Any business owner has to spend a great deal of time shouting to the world who they are and promoting their business and company. Realtors find themselves having to do the shouting with small budgets and they must do personal marketing to stand out from the competition. Your objective should be to become a celebrity. Being a celebrity means people in a the area know your face, your name, and what you do for a living. You don’t have to be famous for just your face, you can become the expert realtor with the waterfront properties or the country club homes. You can come up with a unique “angle” to stand out from every other agent. You should be the focus of your self-promotion. You need to be unique. You must have a gimmick or a hook. What makes you unique and different? And then, you add this uniqueness  in your logo and slogan.

Start by sending postcards and letters! Although a large number of potential home buyers and home sellers start with an online search for comparable homes before they talk to an agent, they do not ignore print communication. If your material is engaging and printed on good quality paper and includes your unique point of view, they take note and contact you especially if the advertising is well-crafted.

A yard sign is not just a way of marketing the current home, but it is also a terrific method of getting your personal business brand in front of other potential home sellers. You should get home sellers to allow you to use a yard sign when a property is put up for sale. Then when it sells, you can put up a "SOLD" sign for a short period of time. This delivers a good image to other potential clients.

Those one line tag lines that have successfully been used to grow product awareness over the years, stick with us forever. Create one for yourself!  It is one way of getting possible clients to remember your name. Choose something that is catchy or that relates to the needs of the client. You can use the tag line on all of your marketing material, from yard signs to business Cards and even t-shirts.

Get your business cards out there...EVERYWHERE! Leave them in every location that you go to all day every day. They need to get into the hands of your prospects. Hand them out to everyone you come into contact with, from your dentist to the clerk at a checkout counter.

If you have a blog or a website, then you should be on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Instagram. You share all of your postings, listings, pictures and just plain thoughts on all of your social media networks. The potential for reaching a wide audience is vast and you can use this medium to become a brand onto yourself.

While self-promoting in the real estate business can be challenging, there are a number of things you can do to market that don't have to cost a fortune. Hopefully these tips have helped to give you a few ideas you can start implementing right away!

When you send out postcards and letters, make sure you design a way to capture the email addresses. Then, develop a real estate marketing email newsletter. Send useful information for the receiver and a way for them to connect with you via phone or email address. Include listing updates, industry trends, tips to find houses and even funny news. .

All your marketing and promotional efforts such as taglines, logos, ads, flyers, etc.will need time to sink into the public’s mind. It might take up to a year. Self-promotion takes fewer hours of direct effort, yet provides phenomenal results in the long run. The key to success is repetition. A self-promotion campaign needs to be continuous and determined. You need to be consistent and persistent to make it work. Remember that your goal is to be the first real estate agent people in your service area think of when they think of real estate.

In order to market your business and solidify your brand in people’s minds, you have to think outside the box. What are your competitors not doing?
