Tricks with Postcards

The most popular marketing tool out there is the postcard. Not only has it always been a successful tool but it is one that can build your business. It can get your targeted audience to travel to your website, respond to your newsletter and give you that coveted phone call. Postcards combine the influence of print with the ease of the internet. Making them work for you can seem overwhelming, but we have discovered some tricks to postcard marketing that we would like to share.
When designing your postcard, try not to make it look like an ad.Too many people send out cards that scream “advertisement” and the receiver tends to throw it away. Dramatically increasing your response rate can happen if you design the card to appear personal, inviting and like it is an invitation. Use a standout picture or photograph. Keep your message very short and to the point. Keep your design uncluttered with lots of “white space”. You can use fonts that look handwritten or even whimsical to create a personal mood. Use color combinations that create a warm feeling and perhaps make the size larger than the normal postcard.
Your postcard should create interest immediately. So much interest that your receiver will want to pick up the phone and call. Bold colors, unique pictures and a call to respond or help will get the ball rolling. Closing the deal is not your purpose at this point. You simply want them to reply and take the next step
Make sure that you have a website that the recipient can go to immediately. They will want more information about you and your offer. Repeat the same information, the same pictures, colors and fonts on the site so that it all is consistent to your message. Offer more details on your site taking them further down the path to your ultimate goal of becoming a client.
Testimonials on your postcard can help make your message Real. Include a testimonial from one of your clients who have had a positive experience in the same way that you want your prospect to experience.Testimonials verify that you as good as your word and validates your reputation. If possible, the testimonial should come from someone who can also be found on the internet so that your postcard prospect knows that they are real and the experience was as described. Honesty always creates trust.
Since there are two sides to a postcard, the first side or the front should be all about the attention grabbing photo/art/font. The second side or back should have your message or the beginning of the call to action or the sales pitch. Make sure the front is design with such excitement that the receiver automatically turns the card over to read the message.
